Providing bucket list fly fishing adventures! If you are on a quest to catch a Tarpon on a fly rod then you have found the right captain! From the time the Tarpon arrive sometime in late April or early May through August I target the Silver King with a fly rod with my clients.
I always have my finger on the pulse of this fickle fish and this makes my clients among the most successful in reaching their goal of catching Megalops Atlanticus on fly.
If you are interested in sight fishing the Tarpon then book a trip and learn how to target the Silver King! I also offer sight fishing with crabs on spinning tackle for those not interested in fly or wanting to do a mixed trip.
The adventure takes place along the Suncoast beaches in the Tampa Bay area. One of the best places to fish for Tarpon in Florida is along this coast where white shallow sand bottom highlights the dark backs of Tarpon on their migration route. This is a very visual experience with lots of shots giving the angler many opportunities to put a Tarpon in the air. The numbers of fish and their size is astounding. Add to this the proximity of excellent restaurants and accommodations and you have a complete package of a true world class fishery. Give me a call or drop me an email and I will reserve your adventure! Check out my guarantee and what I offer my customers and I think you will agree that my all inclusive package is a truly unique experience.
Secret squirrel also offers light tackle spinning and fly fishing adventures in the Tampa Bay area for other species. These species include Snook, Redfish, Jack Crevalle, Spanish Mackerel, Ladyfish, Sea Trout, Pompano, Bonito, Cobia and Mangrove Snapper among others.
Although the fly rod is the tool of choice on my boat I also employ artificials on spinning and Tarpon sight fishing with pass crabs during the season. This diversity allows me to introduce the "Fly Curious" to the sport and have the more familiar spinning tackle as an option. This also allows me to include other less skilled family members on our adventures. My service is dedicated to the patient teaching of my clients and introducing them to the great sport of Fly Fishing!
Captain Barkley Daniel Bio
Captain Barkley Daniel has lived in the Tampa Bay area for most of his life and fished these waters with a fly since he was 14 years old. Captain Daniel possesses a U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s license and has numerous courses in advanced vessel operations. Among other species he targets Tarpon when they are present and fishes for them in the most sporting manner, with a fly rod. He has been fishing for Tarpon in the Tampa Bay area and south along the west coast of Florida down through the Florida Keys and Marquesas islands since he was bitten by the Tarpon bug. Every May through August his customers cast flys to these magnificent fish in the Tampa Bay area.
Captain Barkley Daniel has taught many people not only how to fish for the Silver King but how to cast a fly rod. Captain Barkley Daniel can make your quest to be a successful Tarpon hunter a reality. He believes in teamwork and follows this up putting something “on the line” when he guides a customer to their trophy (see the guarantee for more). An easy going person Captain Barkley Daniel is not the type to berate someone who blows a shot. He believes that through encouragement and imparting his knowledge to the customer that the individual will be able to accomplish his/her goal. Captain Barkley has taken many clients on their first Tarpon bucket list adventure and made their dream a reality.
